A simple and all-white bathroom with little to no layers of elegance was transformed into a hip and elegant bathroom design that features funky shades of pink and combines traditional elements with contemporary ones. Winwood Mckenzie was the architecture practice behind this astonishing renovation, now, Luxury Bathrooms will delve into this unique bathroom design of a 19th-century Melbourne home.
The new curvaceous bathroom designs feature various shades of pink and wood-veneer accents throughout creating a fascinating contrast. These exceptionally curated spaces pay tribute to the history of the remarkable traditional home while also adding a few contemporary twists.
The custom-made rounded mirrored medicine cabinet features a curvy design that gives a gentle touch to the bathroom. Mckenzie adds that “the curves create a gentleness in the bathroom, while using a contemporary architectural language that is informed by the arches, ornament, and details of the heritage house.”
The bathroom also highlights astounding encaustic tiles which were designed by India Mahdavi for Bisazza. According to Thomas Mckenzie, the director of the firm, “The colors and finishes make subtle references to bathroom finishes from different periods, including the hand-painted tiles, the penny rounds, the combination of pink and black, and the timber, a reinterpretation of a dressing table and antique furniture.”
Even the walls of this fabulous bathroom talk as they have an extremely decorative nature to them. They highlight rounded edges. Mckenzie used standard 90-degree plaster cornice to finish the corners and then proceeded to wrap them in round penny tiles. This results in a fluid space with soft characteristics.
Lastly, the shower features water jet-cut and color-match vitrified off-white ceramics tiles that create a mosaic shower base that follows the same pattern as the bathroom floors but with less color.
