He became distinguished in the art world for exploring issues of architecture, engineering, and a fictional sort of archaeology in work that always evokes a poetic conversation between past and future. His Long Island retreat features several pieces designed by him and also in collaboration with Snarkitecture, which was involved at every level of detail of the renovation. After getting some experience in the art, design and architecture world, Daniel Arsham cofounded Snarkitecture with Alex Mustonen who studied with him in college. “My work often manipulates architectural surfaces, and sometimes I need architects and engineers to help me work out the language. Snarkitecture has taken on a life of its own, and now people might not even know I’m associated with it”, explained the renowned artist to the Architectural Digest team.

Given that architecture has always played such a prominent role in Daniel Arsham’s personal and professional path, it appears seamless that his own private living space for weekend getaways is a 1971 masterpiece by New York Five architect, Norman Jaffe.
Inside the 20th century residential project, Daniel Arsham wanted to replicate the original cedar interiors that capture the natural beauty of the house’s surrounding environment. Although the artist has made some small renos in the living area and kitchen, the majority of the redesign was focused on the master bedroom suite and its luxurious bathroom design.
Daniel Arsham removed two bathrooms, a laundry room, and a bedroom to create a larger master bath and an office/gym. The suite’s master bathroom design truly is all about the spa-like bathroom design trend with a custom freestanding bathtub, mirror, cedar vanity, and chair by Snarkitecture.
